Aloha Friday, May22nd

Today is Aloha Friday and gosh how I wish I was on a beach right this very minute.

My question for you today:

Have you ever had a surprise birthday party? Who gave it in your honor and how old were you?

My answer:

I've had two actually. One when I turned 18 years old and my mom surprised the hell out of me at our home, no less. I still cannot figure out how she pulled that one off. The drinking age was 18 back then, need I say more?

The second one was my 40th and my husband organized this one. I cannot say I was excited about it. Embarrassed is more like it. We were living in a new city, so my friends were new,and I was rather uncomfortable about most of it. I like to be the life of the party, but on my terms. Not to mention the house was not clean and there were some invitees that would take notice to this fact. Plus, I thought I had expressed more than once to him, that's not my thing, it's his. The one huge highlight of the event, my mom and sister drove in from out of town to celebrate with me.

Husbands, if you are going to surprise your wife with a birthday party at your home, please clean the damn house before the guest arrive! Otherwise, she may spend the entire party worrying about the bathroom, the dust, the mess, etc.

No. I'm not the best candidate though.

MHS surprised me once in my late 20s. I can't remember. I almost had a heart attack, they scared me so badly when they said surprise. LOL It was fun. Like you I would want the house clean but I also feel like any friend who would be bothered by the mess isn't really a friend.

I have never had one. I want to give one to my husband. He turns 30 this year. The house will be cleaned.

I'm sure I must have had at least in my 67 years but for the life of me, can't recall specifics.

Remember well both those surprise parties for you, however, they were fun and... your house wasn't all that dirty!

Happy birthday babe,
Mom

haha that's funny. I've never had one, but once a few girls "kidnapped" me and took me out to breakfast. I was freaking out when they grabbed me, put a pillowcase over my head and carried me out! They were talking in deep voices... it was pretty freaky!

I've never had a surprise birthday...but I really helped to plan my grandma's 70th surprise party. She thought she was going to dinner with my family and that I was stuck at work (we live 2 hours from them) but really I was at the hotel greeting all the guests while everyone else acted "normal". It was amazing!!!

No, my family knows that I am not into those types of things and would be quite upset.

Happy Birthday to you! And I once had a surprise party when I turned 14. My mother surprised me. But I will say, I'm not big on them. It scared the heck out of me (and I'm scarred for life now).

I've never had anyone throw me a surprise party. But I've attended a few and I think they're a lot of fun!

Amy - I would have died if I had a pillowcase thrown over my head and never would have spoken to those friends again. Scary!
Becca - How lovely for your grandma - now that's a celebration!
Rob - are you hinting?
Anissa - A surprise baby shower would be a blast!
Beth - I'm scarred as well!

And no ... I have not had a surprise party. A friend at work surprised me this year with excellent decorations for my birthday. I will never forget her for this kindness.

Happy birthday, Jane's daughter! So happy to meet you! I just LOVE your mom.

I don't think I've ever had a surprise birthday party. Ever. I think I would love one. I was given a surprise going-away party just a few years ago by about 25 fabulous girlfriends, and I was thrilled about that. But nope, nada, zero surprise birthday parties.
